After listening to Sean Laskey's earthy, soulful blend of folk
and blues-tinged acoustic pop, you might be surprised to learn
about his earliest influences. Like so many kids, Sean was first
inspired to pick up the guitar - an electric guitar at that
point - by the The Beatles and the riff-rock of the early 70s
- the latter embodied by the searing sounds of Aerosmith. While
The Beatles' dedication to song crafting and harmony stuck with
Sean, the love affair with riff-rock soon gave way to a desire
to tell stories with his songs.
Today, Laskey's music reflects his earliest influences, combined
with honest roots-rock in the vein of Tom Petty and Steve Earle,
and lyrical phrasing reminiscent of Tom Waits. His diverse musical
palette and knack for creating a hook serve to deliver each
song's message - a message that resonates with a wide array
of listeners. Laskey approaches every song as an idea waiting
to be developed. He starts with each song's kernel, be it lyrical
or melodic, and lets the tune and its hook come to life through
him. The result is a blend of acoustic, singer-songwriter Americana,
framed by unique arrangements and lush orchestration. It's fun,
expressive, deep, relevant, and above all, the kind of music
that makes you want to sing along.
Now working on his third studio release, Sean Laskey wants to
reach as many people as possible with his music. Sean's live
performances allow him to connect with his audience and feel
the energy of instant gratification, which all performers live
for. Future plans for Laskey include club dates covering Asia
and Europe. Always on the prowl for new influences, Sean feels
that exposure to international audiences will provide him with
fresh experiences to draw from, and the chance to be "something
very different" will inspire his songwriting.
Sean Laskey can be found performing and showcasing in the San
Francisco Bay Area's top clubs and most intimate singer-songwriter
venues.
